Poor site design and no tech support, June 8, 2006

In agreement with the other reviews listed, their vendor listings are limited - you get more by just using Google or Yahoo search. Also, their online tools for creating a web page or managing a guest list are poorly designed, confusing, and don't always work. Unfortunately, we had something go wrong with our guest list manager where the tool simply did not load. They don't have a good customer support team - they can only handle questions about vendors, but nothing about the site should your account go awry. For something that's widely advertized, they failed to make a useful and well-designed site.

I am not a fan of The Knot. It's true that they have a lot of wedding information, but I tried to buy wedding favors from them and I can never get transferred to a live representative whenever I called them. There's a ton of other websites that are so much better than this one:
http://www.clienty.com - Good for vendors
http://www.marthastewart.com - Great ideas

The Knot is HORRIBLE to Vendors and a rip off!, January 5, 2006

My husband advertised on the The Knot for years and they treated him like dirt from day one even though he paid $75/month for a link on their site. They do nothing for their advertisers and do not appreciate loyalty by placing long time advertisers on top. Poorly run business that should be avoided. Check in to other online wedding pages through a google search.

Content is great, boards are horrible, March 20, 2004
Reviewer: A customer
I visited The Knot because I was looking for local vendor information and was looking for an older and more upscale clientele than some other popular sites cater to.
The content (etiquette, planning advice, etc.) is great, and I've found a lot of helpful and relevant information. It is obviously targeted at a more metropolitan and adult audience (sorry, other wedding sites, a balloon arch is not my idea of "ambiance!").
The message boards are abysmal. Difficult-to-read, impossible to search for posts by a single user, and poorly organized. There is virtually no moderation, so trolls run rampant at times. Frankly, although I've gotten some good local vendor ideas from the local board, I find the local women cliquish. I live in a wealthy area, and if you're not as wealthy as they are, too bad!

Needs better layout and needs moderation of members, February 10, 2004
Reviewer:Mary Jones (USA) - See all my reviews
The Knot's boards are unmoderated. Anything goes:
Vendors are on the boards, posing as "brides." There's frequent bickering and the posts get buried in a hurry.
The layout needs improvement.
Screen names are frequently impersonated. The "moderators" do nothing about this, either.
Also: the board is rife with cliques. Beware...if you do not belong to a clique, your days on The Knot will be numbered. You will either be bullied off the boards or given the silent treatment.

Got tired of the cliques so I left, February 8, 2004
Reviewer:Mary Jones (USA) - See all my reviews
If you're thinking of using The Knot for your wedding planning, here are the pros and cons: Pros: there's great features for your registry, tons of gowns to browse through and tips for planning your day (hairstyle examples, etc)
Cons:the way the messageboard is set up is enough to give you nearsightedness overnight. Active posts do not stay on top; thanks to the heavy traffic, the posts get buried in a hurry.
There are no FAQs that instruct the user how to set up a bio, how to put pictures in a bio, etc.
More Cons: there is no way to find a post you've entered -- there's a feature that lists the threads you begun, but any posts within a thread are not locatable with this feature.
More Cons...I got sick of the cliques and endless bickering. If you do not "hook up" with a clique on The Knot, forget it.
It only seems that you are "in" if you do belong to a clique. It also is apparent that some unknown power-that-be seems to have a Julius Caesar-like reign to decide whether you are "in" or "out". The entire Fellowship of The Rings mentality is enough to get under your skin in ten seconds flat.
Weddingchannel.com is a far better place to plan your wedding day. The boards may be slow oftentimes than not, but you will not encounter cliques there.
