I'd say an encouraging word. Say a positive thing and a person can carry it with them forever. I'll never forget some of the very powerful words of encouragement I've received. However, I have forgotten all the hurtful ones.

An encouraging word.

I think the world has enough hurt in it already.
And it doesn't do much good in the end.
An encouraging word makes you want to keep going, attempt to do the 'impossible', and it makes you feel pleasantly aware that you are indeed on the 'right' track.

Encouraging because you don't know what and where the intention lies. Being hurtful is a step down, in my opinion- takes more energy to be positive with encouragement.

a hurtful word can stay with someone for years. encouraging words are definitely helpful and wonderful but they don't seem have the impact unfortunately as damaging ones.

a hurtful one, i dont find encouraging words useful, i have had many given to me and i dont ever find any use to them but when someone hurts you, you strive harder to prove them wrong. A hurtful word is by far more powerful to motivate you.

i think encouraging words are more powerful because they make both people feel empowered. hurtful words are only said by scared children.
