I paid for something with paypal tuesday last week by bank funding and the money has not been taken from account neither is it debited from my available balance. On friday I paid for something else by paypal which I didnt have enough money in my bank account to cover yet the payment was still completed? I have a basic account with no overdraft facility, the money is in my account now to cover it but I thought with paypal that the money left your account instantly.
Anybody know?

P.s I have definitely given the right bank details as money has been transferred from paypal to my bank without any problems.

I just seem to remember that in the past when I had a paypal account the money was taken from the available balance straight away? Otherwise how could they know if you have enough money to pay for it?

You do appear to be in a tizwoz! Re the first problem, have you checked with your seller to see if he has received your payment? You should be aware that items paid for via Bank Funding (rather that PayPal balance) can take 10-14 days to go through. In the second case, you could have a problem. Although your payment may show as completed (to you), your seller may not have received the monies. If, when PayPal applies to your Bank for funding for your PayPal account, there is an insufficient balance in your Bank account to cover it, the transaction (to your seller) may be marked as 'pending'. PayPal may reapply for the monies from your Bank or they may not - I suggest that you contact PayPal, quote your eBay item number, and request advice regarding the payment - explain too that funds are now in your Bank account to cover the transaction.
Be warned though - never bid on any item unless you KNOW that you can cover the cost by your PayPal balance or your Bank account - as it could lead to your account being suspended.

I have found that it usually takes the same time as when I use my debit card in the USA or Australia, usually a day longer then using it at home in the UK.

It can take a week to show up on your statement. On paypal, it shows instantly though.

Actually it's immediate. It's done by EFT (electronic funds transfer)
