It is because (if you installed iTunes) your iTunes thingy is set to the default synchronize option. That is where the iPod receives a mirror image of your library and puts the music exactly the way it is on iTunes. Here is some info on what you can do about it:

1.Connect your iPod to your computer.
2.When the iPod icon appears in the iTunes window (under Devices), select it.
3.If the Summary pane is not showing, click the Summary tab (if it asks you to register, do what you want. Afterwards, the summary tab will appear).
4.Select "Manually manage music." (If you have an iPod that displays video, the checkbox says "Manually manage music and video.")
5.Click Music (below Library, on the left side of the iTunes window) and then drag songs and playlists to your iPod.

You may have it syncing the ipod. I manually manage my ipod that way my computer doesn't dictate what goes on it. Check under preferences to see if syncing is checked.
