Gas without a doubt. Electricity has to be generated. That is one conversion. Then you have to convert it to heat in your house. That is twice. Gas is converted directly into heat. that is once. Much more effecient.

This is a tricky question. It used to be gas BUT since gas has increased it has leveled out so it does depend on the appliances and furnace that you are using... as the other people that have answered you have said. At this point the better question would be the best way to insulate?

It would depend on the size of the home and also the size of the furnace. I think gas heats better but electric rates are lower in the winter. I have an electric furnace its ok

Usually depends on the part of the country you're from - if you're close to hydro-electric, electric may be cheaper, but for most of the US, gas is cheaper (assuming natural gas, propane is much more expensive than both, as is oil).
