The US is trying to implement democracy in the middle east. However, history shows us that democracy in highly stratified religious communities (ie- lebanon and iraq) leads to instability.

What do you recommend instead? benevolent monarchy? politburo of technocrats?? Im from the arab world and just want to get a variety of opinions on the subject...

In Middle Eastern countries Islam IS the power structure. Imams and Mullahs use the carrot and stick method of keeping people in line. Go along and get along, or cause waves and get dead right now.

The few who actually believe in all the allah stuff are the "useful idiots" that make it all work for the ones at the top of the food chain.

Saddam was an effective secular ruler in a sea of Islam. Assad in Syria is another. Amaddogonjihad in Iran is a useful idiot of the muslim power structure. The Saud royal family walks a disappearing line between their placation of the west, and their financing of radical muslims worldwide.

Because the Koran allows even the lowest levels of ethics and morals in advancing the purposes of allah, no civilized force on earth can maintain their morals and ethics and win against guile on a worldwide level being used against it.

"We" aren't in a position to impose ANY form of government on them.
"We" toppled the only regime capable of maintaining secular order in Iraq.
"We" toppled Slobodon Milosovic from restoring the Serbian homeland from its muslim occupiers.
"We" cut and ran in Somalia in the face of muslim subterfuge.
"We" cut and ran from Lebanon in the face of a single terror attack.
"We" just toppled the administration of George Bush by electing a socialist congress, thus weakening his position to "Stay the course" against radical Islam.

"We" will soon be in a world of hurt as the religion of death has their way in the rest of the world today, and here in America tomorrow.

"We" are quickly flushing away opportunities of today because of the shortsightedness of our under-educated electorate, and our opportunistic corporate government "elected" legislators.

"We" are up a polluted tributary without sufficient means of propulsion.

Why not try a theocracy? Oligarchies also seem to be popular, especially in North America.
