Well, considering they position snipers on top of the hotels for New Year's Eve, someone obviously thinks so.

I think any place that tourists congregate in droves is a potential target, and perhaps Vegas is a bit more so, due to the excess that makes Sin City famous. But these hotel casinos are HUGE and it would take a concerted effort to cause major damage to any one of them.

In response to Andre, Hoover Dam is actually not much of a target at all, unless someone has a suitcase nuke (and then ANYwhere is a target). There's NO way someone could take down that dam with lesser firepower unless they diligently placed explosives every 15 feet or so, and obviously security would catch them long before they could complete that mission. The dam is just too damn big to take out with a small bomb or two.

No. not really. Their is nothing in the gambling industry that the terrorist's really want. Vulnerably here is the Hoover Dam and the Nellis Air Force Base. Now Vegas Strip is a place where terrorist can hide. The Hotel and Casino's are so greedy for money they will take anybody in their hotels as long as they are paying, without even feeling any suspicion.I know i use to work in them. that's why i got out.

you could walk from Mirage to Stratosphere, that's approximately 2 miles; however the section previous Sahara isn't secure. that's approximately 4 blocks, between the Bonanza present shop and Stratosphere, the place you will likely run into panhandlers and different no longer difficulty-free characters. i've got walked to Stratosphere from the strip a pair of dozen circumstances. the section north of vogue coach Mall is likewise somewhat much less secure for the reason that all those casinos have been demolished (Frontier, Westward Ho, Stardust), there are various empty plenty. although, as long as you reside on the Las Vegas Blvd. sidewalk, there is often site visitors going by ability of and no person is going to objective something with all those witnesses. once you're familiar with city areas you will no longer sense too uncomfortable. besides, the Las Vegas Strip is very secure. besides to the community police (Metro) each on line casino has all kinds of undercover protection wandering around. you would be fantastic between Mandalay Bay and Wynn/Encore. The north end of the strip feels much less secure.

Yes, I believe Las Vegas is dangerous for a terrorist plot. Too many government officials and such. Don't go there to plot any attacks.

It might be a likely target....but so is any big city in the U.S. I would not change travel plans JUST because of my fear of terrorist attacks...really an attack could take place anywhere.
