I think it's fine.
In the south, though, people used to get carried away with that! For a while it was also a tradition to give grandma's middle name as a first name. But ... what if she had HER mom's MAIDEN name? Especially with intermarriage between the same families over and over, someone could have ended up being Carter Smith Carter!
But, yeah, it's fine to throw in another middle name, too.
That's kind of how I'll be when I get married. Right now I'm Acadia Great-GrandmasMaidenName Lastname. When I get married I'll be Acadia Great-GrandmasMaidenName Lastname MarriedName. That's a mouthful, but I'd rather not drop any of it.
So. If your name is long, the other middle name should be short and sweet. Two syllables at most (but it doesn't have to be John or Ben ... there are lots of interesting one-syllable names). But having four names is fine by me. The only caveat is if it's a girl. Then I think three is enough, since she may want to keep ALL her names when/if she marries, and five or six is overkill.

Nah,.. [but] Hyphens work the best.
So Jones-Smith or Smith-Jones.
It is more appealing to the eyes and can get you any where. Look into Movie Star names.
There are all these made up things like so many names will make you a criminal and all this junk. It's all lies,.. people are bored.
My Grandmother had like 5 names,.. not that anyone knows now. She has Alteimerz now so she can't back up when I point out the obvious. What some people do is pick out their favorite names of their name and keep them,... use their name like that. So more names is actually enjoyed by people with them. It let's them be more selective without people argueing " That's just your Nick Name" and they can take out or not domenately use the names they do not enjoy.
So go ahead and go nuts with names. But I would support a Hyphen if you want both last names kept. The norm for no Hyphen seems to be makeing the dather's last name come first so the child may end up dumping it and keeping their mother's name as a last name and their first or second name as a first name o.0 Don't ask me why,.. that's just how things appear to work out some how for the person with their name.

I think it's a great idea. And future generations will be able to track the family more easily. A lot of people use a last name like the mother's for baby's first name. Of course it depends on the name to whether it sounds good!
I am thinking of doing what you're doing. And I'd like a middle name too. I really want family names and the child should feel just as connected to my family as my husband's. Names do give a connection. So you have my support!

I think that everyone should be allowed to name their children the name they want with out being ridiculed. I think that it's a cute idea. My baby cousin is being named Braden which is his great-grandmothers last name. But, no one ever really even listens to middle names after the age of five. It is always just an initial. I think it's good to give your child both last names because he or she is half and half. She needs to fit in with both sides of the family. I don't know if I would bother with another middle name. You could if you wanted though. Lots of people have two middle names. It would save you the hassle of looking for another name, but if you had something else that you liked it wouldn't sound bad at all.

In general, it's probably a fine idea. To some extent, it depends on the mother's last name. If I used my maiden name for my son, no one would even notice. If I used it for my daughter, it would be odd. Some last names shouldn't be used at all. In any case, I would limit the number of names to three.

Think about this:
If Babyname Motherslastname Fathers last name married Babyname Motherslastname Fatherslastname then their child would be called Babyname Jr. Motherslastname Fatherslastname Motherslastname Fatherslastname. That is quite a mouthful don't you think!

A kid named "Babyname Motherslastname Fatherslastname" would probably get beat up a lot. But, seriously I would use the father's lastname unless you two are not together or not married and don't plan on getting married. Then I would hyphenate the child's last name.

I like the idea, of course a lot would depend on the names. I would skip the middle name.
