Dancing is an Art. why do you think it's not in the olympics. I know this is a lame concept. But just pretend, the dance floor is a blank canvas and you are the paintbrush. When you perform your dancing is transfered from a mere movement to a personalized art. Basically, it's a performing art.

Well art is a point of view!
Some people who enjoy Hip/Hop style dancing may consider Ballet as being stuffy and outdated whereas Ballet dancers may see Hip/Hop dancing as irrelevant and as a passing fad.
As a retired dancer who did commercial work for 13 years I think dancing can be art as long as it is presented in such a way. If it is inspiring and original and ground breaking then yes it is art....of course it is. Modern dancing is usually the genre that is considered to be the most artful but I don't it's only that genre. Like I said, what is art all depends on who's viewing it...

according to Websters it is; under the word "dance" you will find several definitions, including the following:
9.the art of dancing.
Aside from Websters Dictionary, dance is popularly acknowledged as an art form although different types of dance vary greatly and some are closer to a folk art rather than what people consider a formal art (e.g. belly dance, which has less formal instruction and is not as standardized as ballet)

Dancing is absolutely an art.
Dance, patterned and rhythmic bodily movements, usually performed to music, that serve as a form of communication or expression. Human beings express themselves naturally through movement. Dance is the transformation of ordinary functional and expressive movement into extraordinary movement for extraordinary purposes; even a common movement such as walking is performed in dance in a patterned way, perhaps in circles or to a special rhythm, and it occurs in a special context. Dance may involve a fixed vocabulary of movements that have no meaning in themselves, as in much of ballet and European folk dance, or pantomime and symbolic gestures may be used, as in many Asian dance forms. Peoples of different cultures dance differently and for varying purposes; their varied forms of dance can reveal much about their way of life.
