I have something I am wanting to patent and I can't seem to find information on simple things, like how to apply for patents in other countries and whether that is necessary. I'm in Canada, but am hoping to patent in the US as well.

The best way to get a patent is through a patent attorney- who will charge you from $1,000 to $10,000 to do the work -

You may want to just copyright your idea - because many troll the patent library (if you patent it, it becomes publically available), and then someone can take your idea, modify is slightly, and sell it.

When I wanted to patent some engineering designs.. I was told that anyone could change my design as little as 10% better or 10% worse and obtain a newer patent.

Needless to say I did not bother to patent my ideas if they could be stolen or misappropriated that easy.

convinced, because in many cases an invention has many parts and modes, so it could be used for even with you imagine it ought to do. Like, in case you gave some cavemen a operating laptop or computer, some will use it as a weapon, some will attempt to extract parts that could be used as operating equipment, and some will use it as a snack tray. it will take a lengthy time period earlier they rather discover the properly acceptable use for it. in certain circumstances the discovery's use will be rather glaring (like a reflect), in spite of the undeniable fact that it actual relies upon on your intelligence or how your mind translates the way it could be used. So, yeah, perchance the hot invention is a titanium bowl with infinite warmth settings to warmth some thing up, yet someone may attempt as an example the bowl the incorrect way up, stick their head interior, and observe if it supplies them an computerized haircut. :P i'm rather particular an invention will be used in a large number of diverse ideas earlier its properly acceptable use is found out.
