Its in alignment with the NBA Dress Code during a game...players are required to tuck in their jersey's during a game.

The real reason is because when they play, they don't want the jerseys (sometimes long) to become a barrier to defending players. That way when the go to swat the ball or play close defense, they don't accidentally hit the jersey making it look like a foul. They want to make the cloting as tight as possible that way there isn't extra fabric.

David Stern's attitude is, if you idiots want to look like slobs around your own home, that's fine...just don't do that on my courts.
