A "handmade" ceramic bowl as a Christmas gift? Where did you get that - Walmart or the Salvation Army Thrift Store? Not the best choice for a holiday gift. You're lucky she just asked her daughter to get it out of her sight. I would have thrown it at you. If you're even invited again, start thinking jewelry, designer clothes, or other luxury items. Something tasteful.

I know the perfect solution if you are just starting with woodworking and also if you have already experience with it. I reccomend to give a look to this website ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) You can find a lot of woodworking plans and you will be able to manage the projects with a CAD/DWG software. It allows you to modify the projects and to alter the arragements. If you are a beginner this is the easiest way to start, it's the best approach to woodworking; and if you already have experience you will find a lot of ideas and inspirations to improve your abilities with woodwork. I'm sure that you will love it!

Last Christmas, I received a hand knitted scarf and I loved it because it matched the color of my coat perfectly. I enjoy receiving hand made gifts because I know the giver put a lot of thought and effort into it.

One of my best friends gives me a little village house for my collection each year. She makes them herself. I've got 4 so far. Last year it was a little music store, it's so cute. Every year when I'm setting up my little houses I think of her. I usually give people homemade Christmas cookies with their other gifts along with the recipe.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/QwNZe
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

A very special hand woven tapestry (which I weaved) .. I gave it to my parents. It hung on their bedroom wall above their bed for the next 25 years, until some years after my father's passing, my mother sold her house -- at which time she gave the hanging to me to keep. It now hangs in my study above my desk where I see it throughout my days. It constantly reminds me of where I was when I wove it, of all the years since, and of course, of my father and mother upon whose bedroom wall it hung for so long. Using a couple of pounds of wool and a bit of talent, I achieved a lasting heirloom which has pleased my parents and myself for more than 30-some years.

Last year, my sister gave me a framed cross stitch she did of a basket filled with puppies and stuffed animals (puppies). It's wonderful and hangs on the wall that you see from the living room.
I like it because she did it...she thought of me when she did it (I love dogs), and because she did it...(*chuckle*) In that order.

It was hand made Rupert Bear that my mum made for me. She had made one for my niece and I kept saying how I loved it and so she made one for me and put it with my christmas present. Its all soft and cuddly. My mum died 3 years ago and now Rupert sits on my bed and reminds me of lovely times with my mum and what a sweet and kind mum she was. I cuddle him always when I'm sad xxxx
