this is a 'sort of' guess, but i think it's from the story 'The Night Before Christmas'
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse....the stockings were hung on the mantle with care, in the hope that Saint Nicholas soon would be there.................
