Office Space is a great comedy. You and your girlfriend might be able to relate to the plot.
There's also the Producers (the original 1970s version with Mel Brooks), which is practically a piece of comedic genius in history.
For musicals, there's always Rent, but beware, it's known to be a tearjerker.

The Devil wears Prada just came out and had a couple of Golden Globe nods...might be worth watching. Also, Disney's Cars was a good movie.
