I would really like to burn candles in the house, but have to be careful due to the soot that is created by some of them. (Asthma). Are soy candles good alternatives? Looking for something that will burn clean and still have a nice scent. Thanks for the help!

My last flat I could not have any smoke or the fire alarm would go of. I found that if I dripped a few drops of scented oils on the side of the radiator or heater, when the heating was on it would put the scent through the room with no smoked. But if you like candles you could also add the scented oils to the melted wax (of a candle that does not affect you) after blowing out the flame and then relighting it, It will work like a scented candle. Good luck.

Every type of wax has soot to some degree, even soy. Unfortunately, it is not the wax that may trigger your asthma. It is the fragrance oil in the candle.
And um, Yankme candles are the worst all the way around.
High price tag, not a very good hot throw and way too much waste.

My sister burned soy candles a few times and she did not like them. I personally like Yankee Candles myself. You pay a little extra for them, but they are good candles. You may want to get what they call a 'Iluma Lid' to help burn the candle evenly. (See link below).

You can get one of the lids at Walmart for about $3-4 instead of the $10 ones on the website.

If you can find them, 100% beeswax candles. They are more expensive than regular candles, and you might even have to make them yourself, but if you have allergies (except to honey) this might be a great choice. The 100% beeswax candles should burn a little longer, but I'm not quite sure about this. There are suppliers of 100% beeswax on the net if you search around a bit.

Have you tried the Glade Oil Scents? Those are awesome and will fill a whole room rather than just a small area. I LOVE them and they have so many different scents to choose from. Look here http://www.glade.com/scented-oil-candles/

real bees wax candles are much less sooty than regular candles.and if you have asthma, i would avoid all the scented candles--most of them are just artificial scents created by chemicals and they rarely smell like the actual thing they claim to be.
