Are MCATs even required for Berkeley's medical graduate program?

Can this be subsituted with a GRE subject exam?

Assuming you mean UCSF, then you MUST take the MCAT. I'm sure this is true at the other UC med schools as well.

UC Berkeley does not have a medical school. The UCs with medical schools are Los Angeles, Irvine, San Diego, Davis, & San Fransisco.
