The day before my 41st birthday I became a grandma. It was wonderful. I lived comfortably with money. But I found out that in time my grandchildren liked being with me the most. Had nothing to do with gifts. They laugh with me. That's priceless. We have stories of things we've done. Also priceless. It was time well spent. The oldest is going on 10 now and now wants to spend time with me more and more. Recently I haven't been doing as well with my income. He doesn't care. He tells me that he wants to be with me. I show him how to cook and he loves it. We also make things together. He is thrilled to just have my attention. The other kids too. They like to come and play. I have a beach ball for in the house. And as far as sleeping quarters? I've already had a child sleep in a tote. We had a crib that got flooded. I wanted the kid to stay. It didn't hurt for one night. He couldn't get out of it and get hurt and yet was fine sleeping in it. If you want someone bad enough you make ways. We play campout and all sleep on the floor. It's fun. It's a memory that we have. Don't compete. It will turn you gray. Enjoy these times. They grow too fast. A child likes a teacher and an ear that listens. Be that person.

My mom was married and had me when she was 19, my gramma was 37. Young grammas are more fun.
I dont exactly know how you can not have room for your grandchild to visit.... is he still a baby and not sleeping in a bed yet?
Theres always a sofa.... My grampa always slept on the sofa when i stayed at grammas, and I slept with gramma. Or, at the other grandparents, they made me a bed on the sofa and I slept there.
And those pop up playpen/cribs are no more than 2-3 feet, I cant imagine not having a table you can push aside to make it fit.
Honestly, i just sounds like you feel guilty because you dont have time or ambition to spend on your grandchild. Otherwise you would....
I had one set of grandparents that had no money. And one that we had to fill three cars each christmas with their gifts to me. I didnt love one more than the other, although the ones that had more money were younger and more readily available, but i spent pleanty of time with my other grandparents.
I learned how to sit and be happy with them. How to enjoy small things like watching jeapordy and listening to grampa's stories. How to cook popcorn on the stove and ride a tricycle in the house.
They were older and never invited me over, or asked to take me places, but the older I got the more time I spent with them. There door was always open, and they always expressed how much they loved me.
I really dont think you have much of an arguement, if you want to see the baby, go over, invite the baby over, call, stop by, sends cards. Just BE there. Your daughter doesnt seem to be trying to keep the baby away, it just seems like you've already decided you're not worthy and cant compete and wont try, against the other grandparents. Thats not fair, to you, them, and espeically the baby.
Money's got nothing to do with it. And thats from personal experience. Love is what matters in the end.

It's definitely not a competition but I could understand how you feel. Is there no way you could fit a portable crib next to your bed or an attachment sleeper that attaches to your bed? I don't think she's trying perhaps youre just upset because you can't provide the child with the things they can. Perhaps you could have weekly visits to give mom and dad some time alone. Maybe you could pick the child up from the sitter when you get off if they are still working.

Don't make this a competition for your grandchild's affection. It's great that he's got a grandmother who can afford to spoil him. That doesn't mean that you love him any less and you can show your love in more ways than in just money. Make the time you do spend with him quality time, time to teach him the things that can only be taught by grandparents. Don't make it a competition between you and the other grandmother as this will only make it miserable for all of you. Just be yourself and do what you can. Count your blessings that you have a healthy grandson.

Thats a shame. Why don't you go out with your daughter, for shopping or a day out and spend time with her any her baby.
Ask your daughter to consider letting you babysit when she doesn't need someone to look after the baby overnight and her partners mother can look after baby when he has to stay over.

That is very sad. I do not have any relationship with my fathers mother. She is a cruel woman. Its not me. She dosent get along with anyone in my family. I am 1/2 hispanic 1/2 english and she refers to me as the half breed. My mother and her family were never good enough to be apart of her baby boys life. I am almost 30 years old and she still insults me, my mother, and now my husband because he is jewish. I have lived with this hate all my life. Its refreshing to see a grandmother who WANTS to be with her grandchild! Thank you! I wish you well!

her boyfriend mother might have more money, and thats fine, but does she has the true love that you have, because you work harder for what you have, .Im glad that you told your daughter how you feel. maybe she can bring the baby over a couple of times and you two can go shopping or whatever with the baby. ,to the zoo, park.. but your granddaughter or grandson will know that you love them. mine is 6 and im lucky if i see her , sometines i don' see her for weeks. but she knows i love her,
