Most Indian men (from India) feel that they are superior to women. Women should cook, clean, stay at home, etc. Most Indian men have been brought up that way.

I was very fortunate to be in a home where my mom was treated very well by my dad - who was Indian but passed away in 1980. I know many families now where the women are treated poorly.

Depends on whether you mean the role/treatment of women in the southern or northern part of that country. The role and treatment of women in India varies from one income group to another, from one sub-culture to another, and from one region to another. More and more women have access to better education and job opportunities in India, and then again, because of an increase in divorces, many of them are more keen to be self-sufficient.

Like many cultures that are strangled by religious views, India still has a long way to go to experience the liberation of its women. However, India is not alone in this and the progress of courageous Indian women needs to be celebrated.

The treatment of Indian women is the same as the treatment of any other woman in any other land. It's not that Indian women are being abused because they are Indian but because the people that abuse them are stupid.
