get a test light and see if you have power at the small wire on your starter when someone turns the key to start if you have power the starter is bad try tapping on the starter with a small hammer if it cranks then the unit must be replaced

If the car starts and runs on a fresh battery ( fully charged ) it has to be a bad connection somewhere or a bad ground. It could also be the alternator. I replaced one in my car and had the same problem, racked my brains for 2 days then took the alternator back to the autoparts store and sure enough they had sold me a bad alternator.

On another note my son had a 3000 gt that would not crank over, we replaced over 600 dollars worth of parts and still nothing. Took it the dealer and paid 70 bucks or so for a diagnostics and it turned out the computer was fried. Paid another $1000 for it ( discount through a friend ) installed it and walla it started.

Good luck

Could be anything from a neutral safety problem ( won't start unless in neutral or park ) to a connection at the battery terminal. You didn't say if the engine lights come on when you first turn on the key ( alt, oil, ) so I'm assuming it's a no crank condition. Is there an aftermarket anti-theft system that could be bad ? I hope I helped.

That big red positive cable leaving the battery does not go to your ignition switch... it goes to a starter relay so that only a small, low power wire is routed through the intstrument panel. The ignition switch controls the starter relay to send power to the starter to crank the car.

So, your problem could be one or two things... the starter relay or the ignition switch. No reason to be depressed! Well... at least for the relay... ignition switches are a real pain in the butt!

Good luck!

try this method.turn headlight on and have some one stand in front of the headlight.the minute you turn the key on all the way,the light should dim.if the light is not dim, this indicate there is no power coming to the starter...if no power,on the passenger side under the hood, there is a inhibitor relay.this is what supply power to the starter.at the relay, there should power at the yellow and black with yellow stripe wires.if not, check the fuse.next have someone put their finger on the relay while someone turn the key on all the way.if you felt a click, make sure there is power at the black with pink stripe wire.if there is no power, replace the relay

Could be:

1) Dead battery.
2) Loose battery connection.
3) Faulty starter.
4) Bad ground.
5) Faulty neutral safety switch.
6) Bad key switch.

Make sure you have a really clean connection to the battery - the least amount of corrosion will cause enough resistance to prevent cranking.

Do other electrical things work, like the lights or radio? If not, the battery is not hooked up properly, or it is dead.

Your car may have a main fuse that is blown. Check those.

Could be a bad neutral safety switch. You can try to jump the wires at the switch to see it you can start it. If it starts the switch is bad. If not trace the ignition wire back as far as possible for shorts. If no shorts your ignition switch is probably to blame.(alarm ignition cutoff???)

I had a similar problem years ago on my car. Here is a shot in the dark. I had a spliced wire to the coil covered by tape. The splice came apart under the tape therefore no spark. I went nuts before I solved the problem. Us Navy guys take longer. I hope it is just a simple solution. Thanks for serving Hope you have the same luck.

Might also check the starter or wires connected to the starter. Good luck
