you have not provided sufficient information. extend the range in what way ? from one end of an open warehouse to the other ? from the 3rd floor of a house to the basement ? from the kitchen on the first floor out to the pool area ?

you can not just increase the output (gain) of a wireless signal and expect enhanced performance, 802.11 does not work like that.

Also there is just about no reason to buy a wireless access point (AP) for home use. You can use a wireless router just as effectively as an AP for about half the price. There is not a big demand for access points which is why they are so expensive as compared to the 200 different types of wireless routers..

Yes, there are wireless extenders that plug into a power outlet. This would be for small areas. The better route would be to purchase a wireless access point. This is what I have in my house. I have my cable modem and main router on my 2nd floor. Then, an access point on my first floor. The access point will broaden your range as if you really had your original wireless router near you.

I would recommend buying a Netgear access point. But, it's recommended that you use the same brand as your wireless router. While I recommend Netgear, I have a Belkin wireless router and access point. If you have the same brand, there will be a better chance for compatibility and you will get the best performance.

Depends on your scenario, to extend a wireless connect a large distance you could use 200-400mw wireless bridge and atleast a 14dBi antenna. The antenna would be an OMNI for 360 directional broadcast, or use standard Point-to-Point antenna for remote networking.

If your wanting to extend it a longer range for your home/office then you could buy larger Gain Antenna for whatever your access point is, or buy a wireless bridge mentioned above and use it as your access point.

you're slowing down your neighbours connection once you employ it. the only thank you to amplify the sign is to purchase your individual router. Then, if the sign weakens or drops, you are able to turn it off to sparkling the cache!
