How do you save clips of movies on your computer from a DVD?

OK I am trying to save a clip from a movie DVD on to my computer do I need to save the whole movie first then bookmark or whatever the part I want to save, I am not computer suave as you might say!! I have Windows Movie Maker and player can and if so how do you do it with that??
