I'm hoping to buy laminate for my grandmothers house that we're vacating for now. For example, one room is 12x17. How would I know how much laminate to buy?

That doesn't make sense to me! It's cheaply made laminate that is supposed to do the job for now as flooring, but it'd cost $108 for one room, $180 and about $200 for 3 rooms.

Best advice is draw the floor plan of the room. Using a tape measure, measure the length of the walls and note the measurements on your diagram. Also measure any openings such as archways or doors. Take your map to your local flooring dealer or home improvement center and let them calculate the amount of flooring you need. They will allow for waste as well as accessories such as adhesive, fasteners, underlayment, and transition strips.

Good luck with your flooring project.

You measure the lenghs of the room. If it is 12x17 then you multiply 12 and 17 to get 204 square feet. I would suggest buying a little more laminate just in case of problems

The room is made up of 2 rectangles. Take the width of one of the rectangles and subtract it from the length of the other rectangle. Now you have 1st Rectangle L1 and W1 1st Rectangle Area = L1 * W1 2nd Rectangle W2 and L2 - W1 2nd Rectangle Area = (L2 - W1)W2 To get the Area, just add the 2 rectangles together R1 + R2 = Total Area (L1W1) + (L2 - W1)W2 = TA For example, lets say your room measures Lengths = 9ft and 12ft Widths = 4ft and 3 ft Respectivly L1 = 9 W1 = 3 L2 = 12 W2 = 4 (L1W1) + (L2 - W1)W2 = TA (9 * 3) + 4(12 - 3) = TA 27 + 4(9) = TA 27 + 36 = TA TA = 63 ft^2

Simple, 12 feet times 17 feet equals 204 square feet. The formula is length X width=square feet. Did you sleep through all your math classes or just that one particular day. Take that figure and add an additional box for the mistakes and waste.

My math teacher told me to multiply the length times the width and that gives you the square foot area of a room. If you don't have a tape measure, you can estimate the length and width by using the length of your foot and "walk it out". That's why it is called a "foot". Good luck

take the L x W and get the results in sq ft.
then each piece of lament is 4x8=32'
divide the 32' into your result and purchase enough sheets of lament to cover the sq ft-age to the next sheet.

if you need 6.375 sheets of lament, but 7 sheets and cut to fit.
you always want a Lil more on hand then less.

sq ft - length x width
12 x 17 = 204 sq ft.

remember to add 10% for waste when pricing the flooring.....

12 times 17 that gives you your square feet.

Divide the sq.ft. by 9 as most vinyl flooring is sold by sq. yard.
