the service center i had my car brought too said it had a bad starter. they said they'd have to replace it (for an outragious amount of money!) i drove my car back from the shop on a friday. the next day, i went to start my car, and it was dead again!!! it hasnt even been 24 hours and it's already broken!! i think that maybe they were wrong about the starter being broken, maybe it's something else? or maybe they just screwed me over because i'm an 18 year old girl that knows nothing about cars. please help! when i turn the key, it only makes one click noise and thats it. the battery is brand new. any ideas?!?!

test your battery with a voltage meter. new one should be putting out 12.6 volts. anything under 12.2 you can run into trouble.

if the new battery is dead you might have an alternator going bad that ate up all the juice in the new battery. take the alternator to the parts store and ask them to test it if its good. if it isn't buy a new one and while you're putting that in, charge your new battery and see if she starts

This could be a number of things and it sounds as though the place you took it to has taken advantage of you. First off I would give them a chance to fix it at no cost to you. They are liable for thier repair. If not report this place to your local chamber of commerce.
It sounds like you have a battery drain or possibly a bad battery. I have to assume that since the car does run then the charging sytem may be fine.
First do you have any aftermarket componets installed? If so that could be a drain on the battery. I have seen this numerous times. I would get it started and take it to your local auto parts store. A lot of them can and will test the battery and charging system for free.
I am almost willing to bet they will tell you that the battery is bad. Replace it with a good quality battery. Preferably a solid name brand that will last a long time.

Sounds to me the battery terminals are corroded where they slide onto the battery posts.
That's the most common problem.

Or, they're loose.
