Just because they proved alot of you wrong and won the World Series, doesnt give you the right to say the Cubs will win the NL Central. Once I heard that prediction from a couple of you, I cried.

Nobody even remembers who won last year's World Series.

You're right that they proved people wrong. They had the worst record for winning a World Series, and even more so, the 2 managers of the World Series were best friends. Jim Leyland was a scout for the Cards back in 2000, and La Russa & Leyland became great friends.

I do think that the Cubs can give the Red Birds a run for their money, but I don't think that they'll do anything with the strings of trying to rebuild an ancient organization... Lou Pinella can or cannot be a "god" in Chicago.

People can say, however, that the Cubs can win the NL Central by they've signed a couple of key players like former Red Bird Jason Marquis, along with ex-National Alfonzo Soriano, and others. Most likely the reason that those people said that is because the Cardinals wasted a contract on Russ Springer. I've seen Russ Springer pitch, and he's not that solid. They could have spent the money on someone out there that's a solid field player that can hit, like John Mabry. John can play 1B or OF. Where ever you want to play him, it can work.

If you want a couple of other players that are reasonable for a 1-year deal that can play, here they are with the team that they are currently on:

1. John Mabry (Cubs)
2. Ray King (Rockies)
3. Eduardo Perez (Mariners)

I don't think people have anything against the Cards. I think they have something against the bandwagon fans that a team picks up when they start winning. Personally, I'm an Astros fan. I'd rather see them win the NL Central, but I have no problem with the Cards, Brewers, Pirates or Reds doing it either. The only team I really don't like is the Cubs, who are always "in the hunt" yet they have faltered every year for a rather long time. Even when they do make the playoffs, they never seem to get it right. Granted, the Stros have had their own problems in the playoffs, but it just seems as if the most arrogant fans in the NL are Cubs fans. They also pick up a ton of bandwagon fans each year until their wonderful pitching staff chokes, as usual, and everyone goes back to cheering on their old teams.

You can relax this year, the Cubbies will not win the NL. In all honesty, I look for the Brew-Crew to sneak up on everybody and take it, with the Stros and the Cards close in their rearview mirrors.

Because they are from the Midwest and not a glammer team from the East or West Coast. Even with the best player in baseball the Cards don't get much attention. Guess a blue collar bunch of guys who actually play as a TEAM and win the World Series isn't that exciting to the media and the general public. Just be glad that they are the current champs.

I am not against St. Louis.
I know for certain that they deserved the World Series win.
They simply played better baseball than The Tigers.

You have to admit The Cubs did go out and greatly improve their team. I think they might give St Louis a run for the money.

Should be an interesting 2007 season.

they have done absolutely nothing to improve. sure they won the world series, but that doesnt mean that the cubs have improved a ton. it will be closer than a lot of people think. you take the game way too seriously if you cried just when you heard that they might not win the division. thats pathetic

The Cubs may win there division but they are very creative at finding ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Don't worry the cubs could never make it to the world series.
The only reason to cry about someone making that prediction would be from laughing so hard you couldn't help but cry

No one knows who will win the NL Central division. Personally, the Cardinals are one of my most favorite teams in the MLB. They should win the World Series every year.

You answered your own question. 1) You won last year 2) The Cubs improved their team and 3) the Cards haven't done much to improve themselves.
