While it's only a small dent in the "Big Picture," I think our law makers are grossly overpaid and should be required to work Quid Pro Quo. Same with our upper echelon officers in the military. When an E-1 thru E-3 can expect a pay raise of less than $30 per month and be forced to live on food stamps and WIC, while our Generals get a pay increase of well over $1,300 per month, there's a huge problem.
Most of our military spending goes to outside contrcts for weapons and support. And most of that money is eaten up by unionized labor. It's a major artificial inflator that actually raises the cost of living nation wide. When the contracts are issued, there should be a clause in them about union pay and benefits packages.
The last Big expendeture is "Health and Human Resources." In other words Welfare. I dunno. I kind of view it as a form of slavery. It's a generational problem where we get people refusing to work and fight for a living because they know the government will take care of them. When I was growing up, I had a friend who would get a job only long enough to show that he was "Trying." Then he'd get himself fired so that he could then sit at home and collect. We need to do away with the system entirely and then let those who truly are in need step forward and say so. Everyone else needs to get out and get on with life as we all must.

Federal spending is so out of control that it can potentially result in the bankruptcy of America. The problem has to do with free spending politicians who have indebted all Americans with their indiscretions. When you add the laxity of the Federal Reserve in producing the dollars to pay for the political spending, you have now developed the potential for a monetary collapse.

Not only federal spending but govt. spending at all levels is wasteful probably to the tune of 50%. The reason is simply that it is impossible to monitor it. Our govt. has evolved into a huge self-serving bureaucracy that has the power to collect taxes and spend them for its own benefit - and it does. The most visible beneficiaries are public sector unions, and elected officials who want to look compassionate to garner votes - as well as set up retirement plans for themselves that are outrageous. We read about pork-barrel spending all the time, and we have become so numb to it that we don't even bother to be outraged. It is the classic story of the fox guarding the henhouse. And I really don't know what can be done about it. Maybe O'Reilly............

Too much is spent abroad. We need social services right here. Health, housing and education. Not war and the world bank. India and China produce more collage grads then we do every year.At little or no cost to the student. We buy almost everything from China now.Plus we out source As much work as possible to India today. This is scary stuff.

Out of control.
And the "King of Pork" is Senator Bird of West Virginia.
For example, the FBI wanted a new building to house fingerprint records. Bird adjusted the bill to where it was built in West Virginia.
Can anyone say, small commute to DC?

I'd love to hold on to their check book for awhile. Ok I know that isn't what you meant. Truth be told I think they spend a lot of money on things we don't need and not enough on things we do. We need fuel alternatives and we need them now. If their is a problem with greenhouse gases this could solve both problems. I don't understand it's not like we can't come up with the money for everything else.

Too much. Cut it in half. It would still be too much then.
The top 50% of earners pay 96.54% of federal income taxes
The top 1% pay 34.27%
This is wrong. It violates many parts of the Constitution. I am sick of how much of my hard earned money is stolen from me.
I live in a small town, have a well and septic, and pay $4200 a year in property taxes. I have no kids. This is criminal
