Matter IS energy, thats one explanation.
Second, we have this thing called the sun, that appears every morning in the sky and bathes the Earth in radiant Energy.
Also the Earth is spinning and moving through space, and that's kinetic energy which won't ever "stop" on its own (inertia says it keeps moving until something stops it.)
Energy is everywhere, part of everything. Think bigger.

Earth has a whole range of energy: light energy, wind energy, energy produced by waves and within its core.
Earths energy comes from chemical and elemental reactions from the core to the atmosphere.

Matter can be converted into energy (Einstein's theory of relativity).
That is exactly what is happening in the sun (& all other stars) all the time.
