Because Christmas has become so commercial, maybe people are forgetting. Nobody sees Christmas Cards with Baby Jesus on them anymore. Why?

I try to stay away from going on about Santa, etc. What I try to focus on is the birth of Christ and I also try to explain the meaning of Hannukka. About the presents, I make sure that they know that these are tokens of love, so to speak. I try to have a fine balance. My children helped me pick out a nativity scene this year with all the important aspects, baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the Lamb, as well as the 3 wisemen, and some angels. If we don't teach our children the real meaning, we will eventually lose it forever to commercialism and greed.

Actually you can buy boxes of religious cards...but that's beside the point. The point is that businesses have seen a way to get more money out of people by exploiting a holiday based on giving to others. Hate to say it, but until kingdom come businesses will be doing just that. If you want to boycott commercialism then try either making presents (what I'm doing this year) or helping out at charities. Either one still involves the giving side of Christmas without sending you into debt trying to buy people things.

Actually, Christmas was originally a pagan holiday, but somehow Christians took over it. If you ask me, the most important event to remember and celebrate is Easter- that's when the whole salvation plan kicked in. It's nice to remember how Jesus humbled Himself and to worship Him for that, but it's not nearly as important as what He did for us on the cross.
So I guess you could say Christmas is going back to its roots.

What is the true meaning of Xmas? I mean Christ was born in Spring...Easter time. This is like a baby shower or maybe a celebration of him being conceived. But yes, in the commercial sense, we have forgotten what it is. A time for giving (and not just expense gifts between friends/family/lovers) and togetherness.

Christmas is the day that "MOST" people put aside to celebrate the birth of Christ. No one knows if the 25th is the actual day, but this is the season according to the north star and descriptions in the bible.

I LOVE CHRISTmas!

Why do Christians persist in ignoring the fact that Christmas is a world wide multi religious/non religious festival that their faith is still trying to hijack?

For the vast majority of the people of this world it has nothing to do with the Christian faith. It is winter solstice, pagan rites, and various other non Christian mainly European rites and traditions.

It is a time for everyone in the world to be happy except for the Christians who still try and perpetuate their lies!

Christians should be free to celebrate if they wish but they should not keep trying to force everyone else to their religion and it's practices. It simply underlines their ignorance of the true facts of Christmas time, their faiths lies, their intolerance of others and most of all that they are the only ones not joining everyone else in feelings of good will to all men at this time of year!!!

What really sad, ignorant people they are becoming!!!!

The real meaning of Christmas? That depends on how far back you want to go.

Well, that was original. Sigh.

It seems that for conservative Christians, the real meaning of Christmas is that it's the season for whining about this. I'm pretty sick of you political correctness policemen.

We celebrate the return of the sun and the turning of the wheel of the year.

That's what this season is all about, originally.

If it has a different meaning for you, spiffy. But it does not hold that meaning for all people.

Pagan traditions infiltrated the church and we beleive it is. 97% of the people are too busy wondering about what gifts to get and so on to really focus on it anyway. The news talks about the GNP and spending. Yes, there is mass on christmas, but that really is not enough. Not that I beleive its really his birthdate, anyway!
