What do you think about going to medical school in the Carribean? Is it really that bad? Is it more difficult to get a good residency after graduation and do people look down on that school? In reality, affirmative action gets people into U.S. medical schools eventhought their stats may be lower. And a low ranking U.S. medical school vs Ross.... Is there a big difference??

I think if a person wants to become a doctor badly enough, s/he should not think himself or herself "above" matriculation into a lower-ranking school. What's the greater motivation to practice medicine? A desire to help others? Or an elitist desire to command status and respect?

I won't lie: if you go to Ross, chances are you won't match to a dermatology residency at Cedars-Sinai. But as long as you can do well on the boards and stand well in your class, you'll match somewhere.

But for me, it makes little difference. I was planning on being a rural primary care physician. It's not glamorous nor competitive. Ross would be a good match for me. I have a fine MCAT scores, plenty of extracurriculars, a graduate degree and a job in healthcare. But my undergrad GPA is a little lower than many schools would prefer. I could be a great med student, but it's hardest to get into med schools in California. I'm not exactly the bottom of the heap, and there are a lot of people like me at Ross or applying to Ross.

If you want to know more, I think you should look at various schools' pass rates on the USMLE.
