Reality is that if you do not have the mechanical ability to do this job properly you could end up getting it very wrong and doing some serious damage. Trust me it would ruin your Christmas to the tune of more than £1200.00 if you bend the valves. More if it's a 16 valve job

If you have to ask this question, don't try it. Its not a normal belt, like the "fan" belts... I'm rusty with cars that have timing belts (valves, pistons...).
Basicaly, you have to strip off all the belts, maybe the water pump depending on where its located in the system. Take off the crank pully (special tool almost certianly required). Remove timing belt cover(s). Remove timing belt. Grow extra hands to index cams while not getting cut on razar sharp cam gears and install new belt. Replace oil pump and water pump while your in there! Cross your fingers and hope the valves don't hit the piston!

Start by either buying or going to the Library and acquiring a repair manual. Study it long and hard. Then decide, you know your capabilities better than any one else.
From the wording of your question, I will venture a guess, you are short, knowledge, tools and a place to work. It so, my advise is hire it done.
