Yet, when the fishes are in their natural habitat and swimming wild and free, they have little or no light.

Actually many fish come from very light environments. The sun will penetrate 10-15 feet in even "dirty" water and provide plenty of light.

Many of the species that are kept in an aquarium come from waters only 2-10 feet deep and would typically get a lot of light through out the day.

But the REASON we have lights is because we want to be able to see the fish in the tank. Without lighting in the tank it would be next to impossible to see most fish, and then why bother having them?

Indoors = less natural light and outdoors = sunlight that penetrates the water's surface. Some plants and fish require the use of a flourescent lighting to survive and not to mention it just looks better.

because they look good under bright light...my fish seem to be thriving and doing well as a result of it....What would be the point of having nice fish in a tank if you can barely see them.
