Last night I bought an xbox for 120$ on ebay. I dont have the money to afford a new console. I am now worried that not to many people will be playing xbox live games on the orignal xbox. Did I make a bad decision?

It depends on what Xbox games you have. Some didn't have anyone playing them even before the new consoles came out but overall, there are less people playing due to the Xbox 360s release. Games such as Halo 2 still have many people playing them.

Nah your choice was good except for maybe paying that much. Xbox or Xbox 360 is great for online play. They'll always have people playing online with either one. Besides, you get what you can afford. No need to go jumping into the new systems just yet. I bought a Wii for $400 on ebay and now I kinda regret it. I love Nintendo to death and always will it's just that when new systems come out, especially Nintendo, they tend to be pretty boring but in a month or so, they start to pick up nicely like the DS and look at it this way, when you can afford to get the new systems: 1-They'll be cheaper 2-Don't have to go crazy looking for one and 3-Will have way more games to choose from.

A lot of people will be playing Xbox live games on the original xbox, not everyone has one of the three new consoles. People are still playing Halo 2, DOAU, Burnout Revenge, and other games on Xbox Live with the original xbox.

There is still a pretty strong community on Xbox Live for Xbox, so not really. Plus there are some awesomely addictive games on Xbox. Halo 2, anyone?

Plenty of games out there still make the Xbox popular. No reason to doubt yourself for buying one. It all depends on whether or not you wanted to pay the extra money for performance and online play. You did not, so dont worry about it.
