Beta carotene, vitamins C and E, and - Lutein - has had some great studies done on it. Antioxidants ESPECIALLY.
I just saw my doctor and he said - whatever I'm doing I should continue. I take OPC-3 which has pine bark extract, red wine extract and bilberry extract - all are antioxidants and great to help prevent macular degeneration.

Go to www.patrusso.com Then Health and Nutrition for more info. There's even a vitamin made especially for vision health, but I've had such great results with the OPC-3 that's all I take for my eyes. Pat's a really great guy and will take care of you and answer any questions you have - or if he doesn't have the answers he'll get them for you.

The only truly scientific evidence says there are specific antioxidants and minerals that slow the progression in a large percentage of people who are at "high risk" for macular degeneration. Otherwise, all suggestions for vitamins are anecdotal. It is certainly true that vitamin deficiencies can have a negative effect on vision. So it is probably a good idea to take a regular multivitamin on a daily basis if you think you don't get full nutrition through your diet.

That would be vitamin A, specifically the beta-carotine variant. Might I also recommend bilberry in case of night blindness.
