I'm a Hindu, and we have great respect for cows, which is why we don't eat beef. But I also know that leather is made from cows. Is all leather made from cows? Do they kill cows simply to make leather? I don't know if I should even wear leather anymore. I guess that my main question is: Is all leather made from cows, and do they kill cows to make leather? Thanks for everyone taking the time to answer.

No, not all leather is cow. If it is genuine leather, it should say what kind it is. There is ostrich, snakeskin, deerskin, elkskin, alligator, pigskin, sheepskin, and on and on. If you are against wearing cowskin, I don't know why some of the others wouldn't work for you. You may have to ask a salesperson if it is not clearly marked.

No. Genuine leather diploma covers and purses are made from sheep.

Cows are killed mainly for their beef - meat.

Not all leather comes from cows (and yes, they do kill them, but not just for the leather). It can be pigskin, kidskin (from goats), sheepskin, or horsehide.
