"Making Faces" by Kevin Aucoin is still one of my favorites. I think that there are still many timeless looks in there that are good for reference in terms of application techniques. I try to update looks by incorporating new textures and products (e.g. a more "matte" look lip is used often in his book whereas I prefer glosses). Also try searching under beauty at any major bookstore or at Amazon. Another great makeup resource with great advice and tutorials on the web is makeupalley. The makeup tutorials under forums on specktra are also fantastic. :) Good luck!
