The only clips on these driveshafts are on the splined section which should be inside the gearbox housing. The Drive shaft should have no way of 'Popping out' if your suspension,engine-gearbox mountings are ok & there is nothing wrong with your wheel-bearings, what you describe is a symptom of another problem somewhere,,,,,has the car been involved in any accidents involving a hard blow to the wheels,(if knocked offline) the driveshaft can break off the small portion of the splined end(gearbox end) at its weakest point.....ie where the cutout for the spring clip is located, best to get a measurement of how long the splined section on "Your" driveshaft & compare it to a similar one in a breakers yard, or.......easier still bring it to a mechanic!

Peugeot driveshafts often have a spring on the inside of the inboard c.v. joint, which pushes the end of the driveshaft away from the c.v.j. "bell" or "tulip" (the outside bit), and hence keeps the stub shaft (part of the bell) in the gearbox. The spring has a little cap with a concave end, to allow the convex end of the driveshaft to sit in it and articulate.
I'm guessing that this spring is broken, missing or out-of-position.

Be very careful taking the inboard c.v.j. apart, as Peugeot also often don't use circlips to keep the rollers on the "tripode" (also called a "spider") inside the joint, and if the rollers fall off that will allow all the needle rollers to fall out too. Use the boot to keep the rollers on the tripode.
