well... It could have been a lot of reasons. He was probably sick when you got him. Maybed not though...
i dont think it was your fault. did you get him a nice bowl and food? water conditioner? If you forgot any of there maybe you should research Betta care before trying again.
But you know... sometimes fish just die. You cant really help it.

could be a lot of reasons. did you put him in tap water? maybe the temperature was changed too quickly, or the fish may have been sick already, especially if you got it from walmart or petsmart.

you probably didn't give him food, didn't change his bowl, or he was sick!
