this is the problem:
A woman begins working for a salary of 30,000 per year and gets a $2,000 raise each year. How many years must she work in order for her total earnings to reach 1 million dollars?

We think that it might be 1000000=n(30,000+an)/2

I would have helped you no problem if only you hadn't considered your maths teacher "stupid" for setting such a problem. Change your attitude.

It would be an arithmetic sequence because there's the constant difference ( 2K) between consequitive elements. So, if you can add an arithmetic sequence then you can solve this problem.

I actually don't remember the formula for summing an arith. series!

I think that it might be

Sn = An(An+2000)/2 ,

where An = 30k+(n-1)2000

So, substitute for Sn and An, and solve for n, right?

That's if I've done it right!
