scientific notation is changing a number (usually very long) into a number less than 10 and more than 1. It can be especially useful when making calculations with numbers like 849,000,000,000 or some thing else extremely long when you only need to write 8.49^11 instead of that long number.

Your answer would be 8.9^5

(the 5 is the number of spaces you move the decimal to create a number between 1 and 10). (This number can also be negative, but not in this case).

What I did was looked at the huge number, and just by moving the decimal point, changed the number to eqaul to something between 1 and 9. In this case, 8.9. Now just multiply this by 10 and raise 10 to the number of places you moved the decimal point. If you move it left,it positive. Right is negative.
