Sam counts the sample space by taking into consideration the results of each die. He counts them like this:
11 21 etc.
12 22
13 23
14 24
15 25
16 26

Sally is counting the possible sums for the dice. This is her sample space:
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Sam looks at the dice and sees that there are 6 sides to each. He could turn the dice so that there are 36 combinations that can be displayed.

Sally just wants to move her game piece down the game board. the lowest number you can roll with two dice is two and the highest number that you can roll is 12. You can move anywhere from 2 to 12 spaces after a roll which is 11 combinations.

Sam is explaining to Sally the law of probability by taking a set of 6 outcomes and 6 outcomes and multiplying them together to get 36 different outcomes.. Sally believes that Sam is stalling because she thinks she will win on the next roll and Sam is losing.
