Gandhi got India's independence by boycotting, having the people make their own clothing instead of buying British clothing(this hurt the British economy), led them on the Salt March to illegally get their own salt from the ocean, he encouraged nonviolence, disobedience, and had his people, instead of hitting back, let the British soldiers beat them. He fasted if the two religious groups fought eachother.
There's an old movie about him. It's good, and you should watch it!! :)

Through powerful speaking, mass disobedience, non-violence and use of the hunger strike. He was an amazing man, loved by people on both sides of the fence. However, the India he wanted was not broken up into India and Pakistan.
