what classifies as a "real sabbath day" just the ceremonial aspect of a given calendar day or something deeper?

This implied statement presented in the form of a question does seem to pop up a tad too much on here. I really wish 7th day Adventists would get something original to argue about it must be extremely tiresome checking up on each other on temple day saturday.

Sabbath is from the Hebrew 'Shabbat' so the nod has to go to Judaism. That makes it Friday evening to Saturday evening.
