I have AVG, ad-aware and spybot S&D I was thinking about downloading windows defender as well because I seem to have something infecting my computer that none of these are catching. Will it be compatible? Is this a good idea?

i had a trojan that was removed, i did full disk scans, virus scans and everything was ok. Today I tried to do a full disc scan just to be sure that everything was fine and it kept saying that some program was writing to my scanner. Also my mouse has been a little stuttery, as well as the computer it self. I did an avg scan in safe mode and it said there was in error in reading my partition and the boot up.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

I had Windows Defender, SpyBot and Ad-Aware. SpyBot and Ad-Aware seemed to find twice as much as Defender. It kept telling me that there was no spyware in my computer, when SpyBot and Ad-Aware were finding it, so I uninstalled Defender.

But what is the problem with your computer? What is it doing, or not doing? More explanation will help us help you.

Hmm I have never used defender myself. However call me old fashioned in that you can never go past a paid solution. I find the two best programs are PC Tools Spyware Doctor (http://www.pctools.com ) and Vet Antivirus (http://www.vet.com.au )
What you should use tho would vastly depend on the symptoms that are being displayed (whether it is virus or spyware/adware tho).

Do not download any Anti Virus programs! Go to the store and buy one. Like Norton or McAfee.
