I got that email too and it does sound good but I checked it at snopes.com and they say it is false. You can read the story on it it's kind of interesting. When you get to snopes.com the fastest way to find the answer is to use the search box in upper right hand corner but you might want to browse around for awhile it is an interesting site.

no it is not possible-if you enter your pin number incorrectly three times the ATM Will reject your request and may keep your card.-bear in mind that when people are given a new pin the bank has to look at the possibility that the customer may inadvertently input the number in reverse-and you cannot have the police called out everytime this happens. although the idea that DON M describes in that ATM's could have some sort of function that could combat ATM theft/muggings considering that most muggers wait until the transaction has finished before they do their dastardly deed alerting the police via ATM would not be deemed feasible-but extra cameras/security would not go amiss-even placing the machines in the doorway of the bank within the watchful eyes of the security staff while the bank is closed would help.

Wrong!!!! I accidentally entered the wrong pin # for a debit card in an ATM once (you'll only make that mistake once). The machine kept the card and canceled the transaction. I had to go to my bank to get a new card ... it was a big annoying deal. Police have no way of knowing a wrong PIN is being entered into one of the thousands and thousands of ATM's around the world. Can you imagine how much of their time would be wasted every day if they did respond? You'd need a separate ATM police force!!

No, another silly rumor. However, some banks do offer a 'panic code' that you can get in addition to your own PIN. The panic code still works as usual, but also notifies the police.

You'll have to check with your bank to see if they offer this service.
