learning and believing are two different things. you can learn but never believe, in the same way that you can believe but never learn. simply put, convincing yourself that you are actually learning will only make you a "convinced man" but never a "learned individual".

Probably. Placebos have been shown to be effective, and convincing oneself of something is not unlike a placebo.
