Because December 25 is winter in Japan?

Christmas is a set date, Dec 25.

So, it does not matter if it is summer or winter wherever you are, Dec 25 is still Dec 25.
Japan is in the northern hemisphere, and as such, Dec is in winter. Australia is in the southern hemisphere, so christmas falls in summer there.

Where do you live? Southern Hemisphere?
then you, like me will have Christmas in the summer.
If you lived in the north (like most of the world) you would have a Winter Christmas. nothing special.
um... do you like geography?

Japan has an extremely low number of christians, but about 75% of Japanese "sort of" celebrate christmas. They adopted from the US the customs of shopping to get gifts to give to family and friends, pretty lights and decorations, and the idea of santa claus. For them, it is not any sort of religious holiday, they just borrowed the parts they thought were fun, and made them their own.
They don't celebrate "the birth of jesus," they celebrate shopping and giving presents! :)
Frankly, I like their way better...
