Vienna is wonderful!! I suggest buying a Rick Steves Austria/Germany book! He tells you everything you need to know to do and see... plus adds in daytrips, which I suggest if you're going to be there for 5 days!

For day trips you could see: Salzburg, Austria (sound of music/Mozart's town), take the train to Prague (party and sight see), Cesky Krumlov (just north, a medival town with castle)... and much more...

You'll love Vienna! Check out Rick Steves or Let's Go travel books!

Schonnenbaum palace. Also some of the scenes for sound of music were filmed in vienna/saltzkammergut region of austria & there is usually a sightseeing trip for them. Vienna (or wien) is divided into the old city and the new so just walking around it is interesting

The KunstHistorisches Museum - probably one of the best art galleries in Europe. The Brueghel collection is incomparable (remember the Hapsburgs ruled Holland and Belgium for a long time and pinched most of their best pictures, brought them back to Vienna). Particularly notice the entrance stairway, designed and decorated by Paul Klee no less. Breathtaking even for non-art groupies. You shouldnt miss it. Really.

Schönbrunn Palace is a must.

I also second the vote for side trips... there are very easy train connections to Prague, Salzberg & Budapest. Train connections can be found here: http://jizdnirady.atlas.cz/ConnForm.asp?tt=a&cl=E5 It's a Czech site for trains all through Europe. Just be sure to use the right names, i.e. Wien for Vienna, Praha for Prague.

The obvious choice is St. Stephen's Cathedral -- Vienna is extraordinarily beautiful, I'm jealous!

And the Museum of Modern Art is really interesting, if you're into that.

A concert at Schonbrun Palace.
If weather is nice, a cruise on the Danube River.
