I had to reinstall Windows so I put all my docs onto a spare hard drive. After reinstalling Windows the spare drive is recognised but has no drive letter but it is called Dynamic and Foreign. How can I install the drive and access my stuff?

Further to my details, the extra drive was installed correctly before I reinstalled windows, which is how I copied my stuff across, but will not be read by my new installation.

Hi. The back of the drive should have movable jumpers marked MS, SL, and CS. The main drive should have the jumper on MA (Master) and the second on SL (Slave). The CS stands for Cable Select but you can ignore it. You set the jumpers and reboot. The machine should find and identify each drive. Hope this helps.

Make sure you reset your Mainboards' BIOS up properly. Press F1 to check.

Your O/S gets set up on C:\ drive. Your second hard drive should appear after the Installation is complete as your secondary drive. And may be drive E:\ or F:\ depending on how many other hardware drives you have. Like D:\ CD or DVD player etc.

1) Make sure the drive jumper is set to slave.( physical jumper on back of hard drive)
2) Start/Control Panel/Administrative tools/Computer Management/
Storage/Disk Management/Right click on the drive you want to be able to read and make active and give it a drive letter careful not to delete logical or format.
Now that's a guess but sounds about right.
