The easiest way to tell between the two main causes of pruritus ani (itchy anus) is what time the symptoms come on. It is is mainly itchy right before bed or at night, it is probably pinworms, as that is the time in which the females head to the anus to lay their eggs. You can also actually see the worms if you were to look at the anus during the itchy symptom. If the itchiness is throughout the day, it is more likely hemorrhoids. They also usually present with bloody stools.

I had heard that if someone has too much sugar in their diet, an itchy rectum could result. I can't recall, though, if this would be an indication of diabetes or not.

Does he sweat alot? Perhaps it's the perspiration causing a rash.

worms mate,-worms-threadworms to be exact.-you can something from the chemist to get rid of them-if you want a natural remedy, minced garlic and carrot, one teaspoon of each, mixed together will do the job.this mixture is toxic to worms.---taken by mouth of course-not applied to problem area.

If you have pets that crawl into bed with you, it could very well be worms. But it might just be dry skin. Cortisone creams work pretty well for such things.

I suggest your hubby to see a doc right away, and the doc will make exams. Besides, for the itching moments a good hand of Nivea cream will help tremendously. I use Nivea cream for any itch! Good luck.
