a wallet from your gf for christmas? I don't know him very long and I don't know what to get him.

This is a funny dillemma...so many girls like material things (clothes, cards, etc.) and assume guys will like related things (such as wallets).
Truth is though, if you want to really give him something good either make something yourself (like a song in his favorite style, artwork in his favorite colors, or even a mix cd featuring some of his favorite songs (you can just buy them one-by-one of Napster, for example)). Just...something customized you can't just grab off a shelf that shows you know him.
Another idea: take him out the a football game, skating, set up a small party with his friends and you at a bar he likes... Just, do something that shows you can stretch yourself a bit to feel and enjoy his guy-ish lifestyle with him rather than just, say, dropping a material gift (even electronics) then not taking the time to enjoy it with him.
Trust me, very few girls, or even several women nearing 30 (I'm 26 so I've seen a lot of things), can't figure your question out and end up doing for them what they'd do for themselves (except, of course, not buying girlie presents).
