but frist what is a ternary ionic compund and what are the rules to name them and write their formulas?
heres the problem
apply the rules for naming and writng fromulas fo ternary ionic compunds

ternary compounds contain more than two different elements. Usually there is a combination of atoms called a "radical" or polyatomic ion.

To name them: name the first element (EXCEPT if it is NH4 which is ammonium); everything that is left is a radical; name it.

CoSO4 contains the "sulfate" radical so it would be cobalt (II)sulfate (the cobalt has a +2 charge here)

Ca(OH)2 contains the "hydroxide" radical so it would be calcium hydroxide

NaClO3 contains the "chlorate" radical so it would be sodium chlorate

cobalt(II) sulfate consists of cobalt (with a +2 charge) bonded to the sulfate (SO4 with a -2 charge) so its formula would be
CoSO4 (the total + charge of a compound must equal the total -charge of the compound so that it is neutral)

ammonium chloride consists of the ammonium radical, NH4 (with a +1 charge) bonded to a chlorine (with a -1 charge) so its formula would be NH4Cl

silver acetate is silver (with a +1 charge) bonded to the acetate radical, CH3COO (with a -1 charge) so it would be AgCH3COO

You might want to make a list of the common radicals with their charges on your notebook paper. Your textbook should have a good list.
